Discovery Journal #10
For my final paper I picked the argument of drinking. What I mean by that is the drinking age should be lowered from 21 to 18. I have a lot of passion for this argument because I just recently had a party and it was bad news. My mom caught me and the only reason she was mad because she claimed that there was underage drinking going on. Legally she was right but morally I think she was wrong. I feel that with all the responsibilities that young adults bring on when they turn 18 is a lot for us, and to not take a drink is ridiculous. It has been a controversial topic that has been talked about for many years. Whether it was about the prohibition era or the changing of the drinking age. drinking has been apart of history. I think this is a topic that needs to be brought up again.

Discovery Journal #9 Jon Robinson
I think that this was the most difficult article to read. I really cannot point my finger on exactly why but this one was a tuff. I think the way music is related the film is a fair statement. Some songs relate to the movie dead on and some you think there is no relatively. Some songs you have to think about the hidden meaning and what it has to do with the movie. I think musicians never make music for the films. In my opinion I think a musician should make the music from what he/she is feeling or what comes to mine. To write about something that is made and could be a fiction-based movie is not appealing to me. I think music is important in the movie because it can add the extra spice that movie can have. You would really have to be into the movie to watch it without having music in my opinion.

Enrique

A Warm “Escape”
Love is a powerful force, a feeling that people long for, whether it is loving another person, animal or just the way something smells. Enrique Iglesias uses the power of love to create music. He learned how to express his feelings with music from his father, Julio Iglesias. Julio Iglesias was a famous Latin singer in the 1980s. The snap on Enrique’s record Escape (2001) revolves around love and women. Enrique displays his affection for women and how they have hurt him throughout his life. The album has a lot of Latin flavor which meets its up-tempo beat. There are only about one or two slower tempo songs on the album. The album combines Latin music with up to date pop/rock music. There are a lot of songs that I can focus on to prove that this is one of the best Latin Albums ever.
He leads off the album with the song “Escape,” which is ironically the name of the album. The lyrics of the song talk about Enrique telling a girl that she can leave him but she will never escape his love. His love is to powerful for her to handle and she will come back. “Escape” was one of the tops songs in 2001 but the most famous song of his album is “Hero.” In this song he is telling a woman to not be afraid to jump into his arms. He describes that he will be the perfect man and will be there till the end. This song is one of the slow ones that combine a guitar and a piano to create a soothing vibe. Another popular song by Enrique Iglesias is “Love To See You Cry.” This song’s lyrics speak for itself saying that he loves to see the woman cry and he does not know why. In my opinion he gets satisfied because she is hurt that she is not with him. The last song in my review is by the name of “One Night Stand.” This song also speaks for itself because Enrique is hurt because he has a one-night stand.
Enrique Iglesias whole disposition and rhythm is based off what comes from his heart. I feel like when he sings his songs in Spanish he has more emotion than when he sings them in English. The last three songs on the album are all in spanish. They are the most popular songs on the album but just in spanish. I like this extra music because people from a Latin heritage can sing along but in spanish. I am part Puerto Rican, so coming from first hand it is better to sing along in spanish than english. Enrique has many records and has been on tours with a lot of famous American musicians. He has been noticed to be one of the best Latin singers of his time and the record Escape is one of the best Latin records of all time.

Tupac
Well I have to admit after reading the Tupac article I was impressed. I would have to say it was the most enjoyable and interesting piece I have read this semester so far. I think this was in an essay format and it had to answer the simple question, is Tupac dead. The essay reminded me of the movie 23 because off all the things that connected. The whole seven day thing was weird but cool at the same time because it made you wonder. I think the writer wanted to make the readers think about the truth about Tupac. It makes me think a lot and applaud Tupac for a smart move. If he really were alive it would be awesome to be relaxing everyday on the beach while making millions at the same time. On the other hand I would like to know the truth if he really did pass away or not. I really enjoyed this essay and all the examples it gave.

I Robot
When I watch movies in the future I will have to admit I will take a closer look. All this reading on how people “read” movies and how they study them is mind blowing. When I watch a movie I watch it for the entertainment, not to ask myself a lot of questions. Silverman’s supports his thesis statement about I, Robot throughout his essay. He describes the movie inside and out. Every point that he made he supported it with great detail and good explanations. He gives me good confidence in trying to come up with a topic for the paper because he hits a lot of good aspects of movies I would never think of.

Advertising an People of Color
I am surprised and not surprised at the same time if that is possible after reading this essay. I think the essay gives the impression that America and Americans looked down on people of color. The advertisements that were described in the essay were a little surprising but once I thought about the scenario and at what decade it was I concluded it was just a part of life back then. I was not surprised about the advertisements towards Hispanics and American Indians because people are racist. I really am have are hard time thinking about what this essay is arguing. If I had to make a hypothesis I would have to say that it is arguing the fact that even though there are racist advertisements they still get the point across. People can always make judgments on different advertisements and point fingers today. I personally think it’s not a big deal and they are just trying to advertise their product.

My Writing Rituals
Ever since I was a little kid I never liked to write. I was always in to sports or playing with my friends, like I think most young childern like to do. Instead of learning how to write in a good way I never listened to my teachers and never understood writing. It has been a battle ever since to try and learn the proper ways. I only write when I have to, usually that is for school. I prefer to type rather then actually hand write because it is faster and my hand does not start to hurt. I suppose when I was little my dad used to punish me with writing lines and my hand always hurt. I am a person who always has to have something on while I am doing homework. Whether it be having music on or the television it is just how I am. I do not think there is anything wrong with that everybody is different but if I get the job done then everybody is happy.
